Coniston Dental Practice « Find Other Dentists in West Byfleet

Jon Allan qualified in 1971 from the Royal Dental Hospital in Leicester Square London. Unfortunately he and his fellow students made such an impact that they closed the hospital in the seventies and it is now a Raddison Hotel! He qualified with Honours and to improve his hard learned skills he continued there as a House Surgeon in restorative dentistry increasing his knowledge of crown, bridge and dentures. He then joined Coniston Dental Practice in February 1972 and was offered the chance to take over the practice from Dr Stewart Chapman later that year. He slowly grew the practice being joined by his sister-in-law Kate Allan as associate and Peter Saunsbury then Stephen Wilkinson as partners. When Stephen retired, the whole practice was delighted to have the young Dr Jan Nel join the team, and continue the interest in general practice and cosmetic dentistry. Jon has been involved in the British Dental Association locally and at Southern Counties level where he was elected as President of the Southern Counties Branch in 2006-7, an enormous privilege for a general practice dentist. This honour also meant running a study day for dentists in the area, involving the support of the whole practice team running a postgraduate study day and dinner-dance. He has also been involved as a member of the Surrey Local Dental Committee in its various forms over many years and was Chairman of the West Surrey LDC until it reformed in 2006 as the Surrey LDC where he continues as a member. Married to Vivienne in 1985, they have three children and various pets with a large garden keep the whole family busy. He enjoys watching Harlequins play rugby and motor sport with his interest in classic cars centred on his Morgan owned from new in 1985 and restored in 2002.

Jan Nel qualified in South Africa in 1992 and moved to Coniston after owning his own practice in London. Jan comes from a long family tradition of Doctors and Dentists. His special interest is aesthetic dentistry and he always keeps abreast of new techniques and materials He has attended Dr Larry Rosenthal's Level I and Level II courses in London and New York. Each of these intensive courses covers Principles of Aesthetic Dentistry. Jan and his wife and family have lived in Walton for many years.

Peter Saunsbury studied at University College Hospital in London and joined Coniston in 1979. As both his parents were dentists, a career in dentistry was the obvious choice and Peter has an interest in all aspects of general practice dentistry for both adults and children. To keep up to date with modern trends in dentistry, Peter regularly attends courses run by the British Dental Association and Denplan. In addition, he also runs the Woking Dental Society for local colleagues. Peter lives in Woking with his wife and two teenage children. Although family life keeps him busy, he still finds time to enjoy swimming, badminton and gardening. His other interests include foreign travel, cars and motorsport.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery, 1991, Pretoria, South Africa Having a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, Amadea keeps abreast of new techniques and the latest up to date materials. She is also very passionate about preventing decay in children especially in milk teeth, as they are so important for later development. Although she is married with two children and family life keeps her busy, she finds time to enjoy cooking, needlework, occasionally play golf and to go to the gym.

Sharon has been working as a part-time hygienist at Coniston for many years. Now that her children are growing up she has more time to herself. Sharon enjoys playing tennis and badminton and she belongs to a book club. She also loves socialising with friends and cooking.

Berni qualified as a hygienist in 2004 with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene from Birmingham University.

In her spare time, she enjoys ice skating, supporting the Slough Jets ice hockey team and researching her family tree.
