What is tooth Bonding?

Bonding is a technique where composite resin or porcelain is bonded to the teeth. This has the affect of covering up minor flaws such as discolouration or cracks in your teeth. Bonding normally last for about 7 years. Bonding is commonly combined with contouring and reshaping to provide overall aesthetic improvements.
You might need a tooth bonding if:

  • If you have small gaps between your front teeth that you want corrected
  • If you teeth are chipped or cracked and you would like their appearance improved
  • If your teeth are stained or dis-coloured, bonding can be used to whiten your smile

What is the procedure like?

The procedure is relatively simply and can normally be completed in a couple of hours. At first a mild solutions is applied to your teeth that roughens up the enamel, so that a resin can be boned to them. Several layer of resin are then bonded using a special light that sets the resin into your teeth's surface. The resin is then further shaped and polished by the dentist.

What different types exist?

There are two varieties of dental bonding. The first type is appropriate for small corrections and can be fitted in a single visit to the dentist. The second type are fabricated (typically out of porcelain) in a dental laboratory and therefore require two visits. This type last longer and generally offer better aesthetics.
