A Case Study of Dentistry in Hungary

When his dentist in Dublin told Brian Costello how much his treatment would cost and how long it would take to complete, he was not impressed. Brian needed a lot of urgent work on his teeth including 2 separate bridges and 4 crowns. He was very disappointed to be told the work would take a year to finish and would cost almost 20,000 Euros.

Brian couldn’t afford the treatment and didn’t know where to turn to next.  Help however, arrived from a most unlikely source. A colleague in work was from Hungary and happened to have a cousin who is a dentist.  Brian got in touch with Micholas Veto in the southern Hungarian city of Szaged and made an appointment to visit the clinic of the English-speaking dentist in the summer of 2006.

We’ll let Brian take up the story...

’When I got to Hungary, I travelled down to Szaged from Budapest and made my way to the clinic. I was very impressed with the facilities; it looked very clinical and professional.  I was in the chair for 2 hours that day. The dentist filled down my teeth for the implants and the bridge work I needed. I left him to make the moulds for my new teeth. I went back down 8 days later, had some teeth extracted, and then had all my bridge work and crowns put in place.

All told it took just 4 hours to complete my treatment and it cost me just €1900. So I saved at least €10,000!  At home I think I would have paid somewhere between €12,000 and €18,000 for the same procedures. Overall, I couldn’t recommend the experience more. Before I was self conscious about my teeth- I used to hold my hand over my mouth - now I am much more outgoing and not afraid to smile!
