Dr. Neo Tee Khin is a Consultant Dental Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He completed his dental training at the National University of Singapore in 1991 and obtained a Master of Science and a Certificate in Prosthodontics from Northwestern University, Chicago in 1995.

Dr. Neo has a special interest in the areas of dental implants, dentures and crowns.

Dr. Ansgar C. Cheng is a Consultant Dental Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his dental degree from the University of Hong Kong (1990), Master of Science and Certificate in Prosthodontics from Northwestern University, Chicago (1992) and a Certificate in Maxillofacial Prosthetics from UCLA (1993).

Dr. Cheng has a special interest in the areas of dental implants, dentures, crowns, cosmetic dentistry and dental research. He is also very experienced in treating patients with unique medical conditions, particularly cancer patients.

Dr Winston Jong is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also the Medical Director for both Anaesthesia Unlimited and Express Medical Assistance, a company which provides medical evacuation and repatriation services for medical emergencies in the Asia Pacific Region.

He received his MBBS from the University of Hong Kong in 1982. Dr Jong is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (1992), Fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1998) the Hong Kong College of Anaesthetists (1989), and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2003).

Dr Jong was formerly a Senior Registrar (Anaesthesia) with the National University Hospital and a Senior Medical Officer (Anaesthesia) with the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. He is trained in anaesthesia and intensive care management, and is well versed in aero-medical evacuation and the management and operation of medical assistance especially in the Asia Pacific region.

Dr Maurice Choo is a Consultant Cardiologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. His subspecialty is interventional cardiology. He received his MBBS (1974) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1978) from the University of Singapore, and his Doctor of Medicine from the National University of Singapore (1993). His doctorate involved research on lipoproteins, Lp(a) and coronary angiographic disease.

Dr Choo completed his Fellowship in Cardiology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1981. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1979), Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1981), the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow)(1990), Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1991) and the Royal College of Physicians (London)(1994). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr Choo is a member of the Specialists Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health, and also a member of the Executive Committee of the Joint Committee for Specialist Training, Singapore. He was formerly Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and concurrently, Chief of the Cardiac Department and Head of Cardiology at the National University Hospital.

He has also served as President of the Singapore Cardiac Society, Chairman of the Medical Faculty Research Committee of the National University of Singapore, Chairman of the Internal Medicine Examination Committee of the School of Postgraduate Medical Studies, Chairman of the Medical Budget Committee of National University Hospital, Chairman of the Cardiology Speciality Board of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and Chairman of the Review Committee for National Speciality Centres of the Ministry of Health (Singapore).

Dr Bernard Kwok is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Senior Consultant at the National Heart Centre of Singapore.

Dr Kwok received his MBBS (1990) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) (1996) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) (1996) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2003) and the American College of Cardiology (2007). Dr Kwok received his training in cardiology at the National University Hospital in Singapore, and went on to complete a fellowship in Heart Failure & Heart Transplantation at Stanford University School of Medicine in USA (1998). He is the first Heart Failure Specialist Cardiologist in Singapore, and the first local qualified Transplant Cardiologist. Dr Kwok is also accredited as an Exercise Specialist by American College of Sports Medicine.

Besides his clinical work, Dr Kwok is the Chairman of the Committee for Clinical Pathway for Heart Failure and Heart Failure Advisory Committee at the National Heart Centre and Singapore Cardiac Data Bank respectively. He is also a council member of the Singapore Cardiac Society, a life member of the Singapore Society of Transplantation and member of the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation.

With a keen interest in teaching, Dr Kwok is currently a Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and a Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences at Nanyang Polytechnic. In addition, he is an appointed External Expert for the Centre for Drug Evaluation of the Health Sciences Authority.

Dr Kwok has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed local and international journals. He has also been an invited speaker at conferences in Singapore, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei.

Dr Low Lip Ping is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a Visiting Consultant to the Cardiac Department and the Heart Institute at the National University Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant to the Singapore General Hospital and the Singapore National Heart Centre. He was previously an Associate Professor of Medicine (Department of Medicine) at the National University of Singapore. He is also Honorary Consultant to the SATA Chest & Heart Clinic.

He received his MBBS at the University of Singapore (1965) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr Low is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Singapore Heart Foundation and founder President of the Singapore Hypertension Society. He was formerly the President of the Singapore Medical Association and of the Singapore Cardiac Society. He is a past President of the Asian Pacific Society of Hypertension, founder President of the Asia Pacific Heart Network, and was a previous continental representative to the Executive Board of the World Heart Federation.

Dr Low has served on a number of governmental and public committees including the National Cardiac Care Committee, the Healthy Lifestyle Committee, the Advisory Committee on Cardiac Care (Cardiology) Ministry, Specialist Training Committee for Cardiology (Specialist Accreditation Board), Expert Panel for Cardiology (Centre for Pharmaceutical Administration and Centre for Drug Evaluation, Health Sciences Authority), the Complaints Committee of the Singapore Medical Council, the Panel of Specialists for the Advanced Medical Directive, the Panel of Experts for subordinate courts mediation service and the National Resuscitation Council.

He is Chairman of the Ministry of Health Workgroup on the Singapore Hypertension Clinical Practice Guidelines and a member of the committee on the Singapore Clinical Practice Guidelines on Lipids. In addition, Dr Low has served on several advisory boards of multinational pharmaceutical companies.

Dr Low has participated in the organization of and spoken at many local and international medical meetings. He has been an author or co-author of more than 70 scientific papers and has been on the editorial board of several scientific journals.

For his national and international contributions he was conferred the Public Service Star (BBM) in the National Day Awards 2001 by the President of Singapore.

Dr Teo Wee Siong is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Senior Consultant Cardiologist, National Heart Center, a Visiting Consultant Cardiologist, National University Hospital, a Clinical Teacher (Department of Medicine), National University of Singapore and the Director of Electrophysiology and Pacing at the National Heart Centre.

He received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1987) from the National University of Singapore. He started his cardiology training in the Department of Cardiology, Singapore General Hospital in 1987 and went for advanced training in Cardiology (Cardiac Electrophysiology & Pacing) in London, Ontario, Canada under the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan Fellowship in 1989.

Dr Teo is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1987) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1992), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1998) and the American College of Cardiology (1998). He has been a member of Cardiac Electrophysiology Society since 1998 and was elected as Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society in May 2006.

He was the recipient of a Service Quality Award from the Singapore General Hospital in 1996 and the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) National Day Award in 2004.

Dr Tan Yong Seng is a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously Director of the Heart Lung Transplant Program at the National Heart Centre, a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the National Heart Centre, a Visiting Consultant to the National University Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1984) with distinctions in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1988), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1995), the International College of Surgeons (USA)(2006) and the American College of Cardiology (2006). Dr Tan also was a Clinical Fellow in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, USA (1992) and at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA (1993).

Dr Tan has extensive experience in adult cardiac surgery including using multiple arterial conduits for coronary artery bypass surgery, off pump coronary artery bypass, mitral and aortic valve repair and replacement surgery, Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation, surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm, heart transplants, ventricular assist devices, ECMO and heart failure surgery. In addition he also performs general thoracic and vascular surgery.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed local and international journals and has spoken at conferences in China, Malaysia, Thailand and USA.

His research interests include haemostatic genes in coronary heart diseases, design of a control strategy for postoperative hypertension and the design and assessment of a new sleeve technique for minimally invasive coronary artery bypassing grafting.

Dr Tong Ming Chuan, or Dr M.C. Tong, as he is known to his patients, is a Consultant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1973) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon (Glasgow)(1978), the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1981).

He was previously the Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital and the Director of both the Heart and Lung Transplant Programs at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Tong pioneered the first Heart Transplant in July 1990 and also led the first Lung Transplant in Nov 2000. He was the Chairman of Medical Advisory Board at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, the Secretary-General for the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons in Asia, a member in the Editorial Board for The Asia Pacific Heart Journal & Annals of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, and a member for Advisory Board for Asian Cardiovascular & Thoracic Annals.

Dr Tong’s main specialty is in adult heart surgery. He has extensive experience in coronary artery bypass surgery. He is one of the pioneers for all arterial grafts for CABG, minimal invasive CABG and off pump CABG in Singapore.

Dr Wong Poo Sing is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the University of London (1986) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1990), a Fellow of the United Kingdom Intercollegiate Specialty in Cardiothoracic Surgery(1995), a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (2000), a Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (2000), a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2002) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia (2006).

Dr Wong was previously an Associate Professor in Surgery at the National University of Singapore, a Senior Consultant and Clinical Director (Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery) at the National University Hospital, the Director of Thoracic Surgery, The Heart Institute, a Visiting Consultant (Department of Surgery) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and the Head and Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

He has published extensively in both local and international peer-reviewed journals and has been speaker at conferences in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, Bangladesh and the USA. Dr Wong has also been a reviewer for several journals including Asian Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Annals, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Wong has performed more than 3,500 cardiac surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), aortic and mitral valve procedures, and more than 500 thoracic surgeries including lung resection for malignancies and video-assisted thorascopic surgery.

His research interests include the assessment of myocardial injury and C-reactive protein after CABG surgery, the roles of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulphide in human arteries with diabetes and hypertension, foetal lung tissue in the co-culture of human embryonic stem cells with foetal lung tissue, and other projects related to cell lung cancers and tumour cells.

Dr Cheong Lai Leng is a Consultant Dermatologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), in 1985. She then obtained her Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom).

Dr Cheong completed her residency training in dermatology at the National Skin Centre, Singapore, in 1993. Her subspecialty training in the field of Dermatologic Surgery was undertaken at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation at Cleveland, Ohio, USA, in 1994-95. Dr Cheong was conferred fellowship of the Academy of Medicine (Dermatology), Singapore in 1996 and obtained accreditation as a dermatologist by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.

She has been practicing dermatology for over a decade. Much of her time is focused on the surgical management of dermatological conditions and the practice of cosmetic dermatology. She has lectured at medical conferences as well as public forums on topics in her area of professional interest which include laser therapy, cold-steel surgery, cosmetic dermatology, techniques in skin resurfacing with the carbon dioxide laser and CoolTouch3 laser, photorejuvenation of the skin, Thermage® tissue tightening and hair transplantation. She has incorporated the use of chemical peels, injection of botulinum toxin and fillers in her clinical practice as part of her armamentarium for combined procedures in facial rejuvenation.

Dr Cheong is a Corresponding Fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has held various leadership posts in the Dermatological Society of Singapore in the past and is actively involved in efforts to uphold professional standards in the practice of dermatology.

Dr Lee Chui Tho is a Consultant Dermatologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously the Assistant Medical Director and a Consultant Dermatologist at the National Skin Centre in Singapore.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1977) and was conferred the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore in 1981. Dr Lee trained in Dermatology at St Johns Diseases of the Skin in London and obtained his Diploma of Dermatology from London University in 1983. He was also trained in London in Sexually Transmitted Diseases and obtained his Diploma of Venereology from London University in 1983.

Dr Lee completed his residency in Dermatology at Middle Road Hospital for Diseases of the Skin and National Skin Centre. He underwent sub-speciality training in Dermatosurgery, Laser surgery and Dermatopathology at Duke University Medical Centre in North Carolina and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 1988/89. He has been a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland from 1983, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore from 1987 and is an accredited dermatologist by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.

Dr Lee has authored numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and has delivered conference papers at international conferences, congresses, scientific meetings and seminars, public talks and lectures.

He treats all types of skin diseases including sexually acquired diseases with special interest in laser surgery which includes laser removal of various skin conditions including pigmentation disorders, laser hair removal, laser rejuvenation, laser scar treatment and vascular laser surgery.

Dr Chew Chuan-Tieh is a Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant (Department of Otolaryngology) at the Changi General Hospital. He was previously the Head and Senior Consultant (Department of Otolaryngology) at the Singapore General Hospital and a Part-Time Lecturer both at the Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine at the National University of Singapore.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1976). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1981), the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow)(1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1985).

Dr Chew completed a fellowship in Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) surgery at the City Hospital & Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland (1981) and at the Stanford University Medical Centre (Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery), USA (1987) for head and neck cancer surgery.

He is currently a member of the Expert Panel for ENT Surgery with the Health Sciences Authority (Centre for Pharmaceuticals and Centre for Drug Evaluation) and a Committee Member of the Otolaryngology/ENT Surgery Specialist Training Committee (Ministry of Health / Post-Graduate School of Medicine, National University of Singapore). He is also an International Fellow of American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at numerous international and local conferences and seminars.

Dr Chew was formerly on the Medical Advisory Board for the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, a member of the Committee for Head and Neck Cancer at the National Cancer Centre of Singapore, a Panel Member for ENT Surgery with the National Panel of Medical Experts Subordinate Courts Mediation Service and a Committee Member of the Advisory Committee on Otolaryngology with the Ministry of Health.

Dr Lau Chee Chong is an Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon (Otorhinolaryngologist) and Head & Neck Surgeon. He has been the Medical Director of the Ear Nose & Throat Centre CC Lau at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre for the last 16 years.

Dr Lau received his MBBS from the University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and a Fellow (Roll of Specialists) of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is also an International Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

He has worked previously at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital (London), the Great Ormond Street Sick Childrens Hospital (London), The London Hospital, Singapore General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is a seasoned speaker and instructor on ENT topics, having given lectures and demonstrations at specialist ENT and general medical conferences in Singapore, Australia, India and Malaysia. In 2000, he was the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital Scientific Meeting, which had a theme of “Paediatric ENT”, with a special focus on Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children. He has also been interviewed on live Chinese radio programmes, giving advice on ENT topics.

Dr Lau is an appointed medical expert and specialist (ENT) of the Panel of Medical Experts, Subordinate Courts, Court Mediation Service, Singapore. He has served on many boards and panels of various embassies, legal bodies and professional associations and societies, including the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He is a member of the Singapore Medical Association, the Singapore Society of Oncology, the Singapore Sleep Society and the Singapore Society of Otorhinolaryngology.

His practice covers all areas – surgical and medical – of ENT and Head and Neck practice. He has a particular interest in paediatric ENT (for children), treatment for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, endoscopic sinus and base of skull surgery, otology and middle ear surgery and head and neck cancers.

Dr Adrian Siew Ming Saurajen is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and the Clinical Director of the Ear Nose Throat and Snoring Centre located at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He has also trained and worked in Australia, United Kingdom and the United States and is registered to practise in Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

He is a graduate of the University of Sydney Medical School and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (International Fellow) and the Academy of Medicine of Singapore. Dr Saurajen obtained a Masters of Medicine (Sleep Medicine) from the University of Sydney and is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Australasian Sleep Association, American Rhinologic Society, Singapore Sleep Society and the Singapore Society of Otolaryngology. He also obtained a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine and Surgery at the Medical College Wisconsin in Milwaukee, USA.

Apart from general ENT, Dr Saurajen has a busy pediatric and allergy/rhinology practice. He performs the microdebrider assisted shaving tonsillectomy for children. This is considerably less painful and less morbid than the traditional tonsillectomy. He also performs complex snoring operations and was the first surgeon in Singapore to perform the Palatal advancement pharyngoplasty, the repose suture advancement and the ultrasound guided tongue reduction surgery. He was also the first surgeon in Singapore to do the coblation-assisted pharyngoplasty, tonsillotomy and also coblation-assisted tongue base reduction under local anaesthesia. Dr Saurajen’s interests are in minimally invasive upper airway reconstructive.

Dr Peter Eng is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Center, Singapore. He is currently appointed as a Visiting Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital as well as a Visiting Consultant with Dover Park Hospice.

He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and was subsequently admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1994. He received his specialist accreditation in Endocrinology in 2000 and became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2000. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2006.

Dr Eng’s training in endocrinology was at the Singapore General Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Singapore. After completing his training in endocrinology, he was awarded a fellowship under the Singapore Health Manpower Development Program to further his training at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston from 1998 -1999. This was followed by a research fellowship training award from the National Medical Research Council from 1999-2000. At the Brigham’s, he trained with Professor Lewis Braverman and Dr William Chin. It was during this fellowship training that he won the prestigious Knoll Thyroid Research Clinical Fellowship Award at meeting of the American Endocrine Society in 1999. This was awarded for outstanding research in the thyroid field.

He served as a Senior Consultant in the Singapore General Hospital Department of Endocrinology as well as the Director of the Diabetes Centre at the Singapore General Hospital till 2006, when he started his own private practice at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. From 2004-2006 he was a Clinical Lecturer with the National University of Singapore.

Besides clinical work, Dr Eng is involved in diabetes research and is also a reviewer for both the Singapore Medical Journal and the Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Gwee Hak Meng is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Consultant and Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore.

He received his MBBS (1970) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1974) at the University of Singapore. He was admitted as a member of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (1974) and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1979) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1979).

Dr Cheng Jun is a Consultant Internist & Gastroenterologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant (Department of Gastroenterology) at the Singapore General Hospital.

He received his MBBS from the University of Malaya in 1979 and MRCP (UK) in 1983. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1987), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1993) and the Royal College of Physicians (London). Dr Cheng is also a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a Master Endoscopist, specializing in ERCP and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Dr Cheng also is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and was Censor of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He was previously the Past President of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore, Past Vice-President of the World Organization of Gastroenterology, Board Member of the National Foundation of Digestive Diseases and past Chairman of the Chapter of Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Richard Guan is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in Singapore. He has been the Chairman of the Chapter of Gastroenterology, College of Physicians of Singapore since 2004.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1973. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (1992) and Edinburgh (1990) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1983).

Dr Guan is a member of the Singapore Medical Council, the Gastroenterology Specialist Training Committee (STC),(Ministry of Health), the National Advisory and Scientific committee on Hepatitis and related disorders (Ministry of Health), the National Advisory Committee on Transplantation (Ministry of Health), as well as the Medicines Advisory Committee (Health Science Authority). He also serves as a member of the hepatobiliary subcommittee of the National Committee on Cancer Care.

He is an active member of regional and international professional organizations like the Asia Pacific Association of the Study of Liver Diseases (APASL), International Association of the Study of the Liver (IASL), and the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG).

Besides being a part-time lecturer to several organisations in Singapore, Dr Guan has been a member of teaching faculties in local and regional scientific meetings. He organizes and/or assists in numerous national and regional scientific meetings for physicians as well as educational meetings for the public. He also lectures extensively at seminars, study groups, and to general practitioners locally as well as regionally e.g. Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

He has published more than 100 scientific articles, more than 150 abstracts and several chapters of books. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Viral Hepatitis and the editor-in-chief of a book on local gastroenterological problems and serves on several editorial committees of journals, newsletters and drug directories both locally and regionally. He reviews scientific manuscripts for local and international gastroenterology journals.

Dr Guan has research interests in hepatitis (especially hepatitis B and C) and other liver disorders, functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, inflammatory bowel disease and is a principal investigator in several international multi-centre research projects on hepatitis B treatment.

Dr Guan has consulted for pharmaceutical companies involved in the manufacture of drugs used for hepatitis B treatment (e.g.GlaxoSmithKline, Amrad and Hollis-Eden). He serves as Consultant and Advisory Board Member in the field of Viral Hepatitis Research Studies for International Pharmaceutical Companies like Glaxo Smith Kline, Gillead/Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Amrad and Hollis Eden. He is a member of the APASL working party on the management of chronic hepatitis B.

Dr Ho Kok Tong has been a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre since 1981. He was a Senior Lecturer (Department of Medicine) at the University of Singapore and a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at the Singapore General Hospital.

He graduated with a MBBS from the University of New South Wales, Australia (1970) and Master Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the University of Singapore (1974). Dr Ho is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1979), the American College of Gastroenterologists (1980) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1980).

Dr Ho was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship and worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Liver Unit, Royal Free Hospital, London (1976-77). He was appointed as a Visiting Consultant to the Ministry of Health (1981-1995) and was a member of the Specialist Sub-Committee for Gastroenterology, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is a Medical Consultant/Advisor to the Ren Ci Hospital in Singapore.

Dr Ho is a specialist in the management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases including hepatitis B and C and is an expert endoscopist. He has published papers on hepatitis and hepatoma and other liver diseases, peptic ulcer diseases, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy especially in colonoscopy and colonoscopic polypectomy.

Dr Lim Kian Peng is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Senior Lecturer (Department of Medicine) at the National University of Singapore, a Consultant Physician at the Singapore General Hospital and a Visiting Consultant to the Ministry of Health.

He received his MBBS (1974) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1977) from the University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1981), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1981) and the American College of Gastroenterology (1984). Dr Lim has been in private practice since 1983.

Dr Lim has been appointed as a Medical Expert in the Subordinate Court’s Medication Panel, Primary Dispute Resolution Centre, since 2003 and is a Mentor for medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore since 2005. In addition, he is the Assessor for On-Site Assessment of Technical Skills for Gastroenterology advanced specialist trainees and a Medical Consultant/Advisor to St Luke’s Hospital, Ling Kwang Home for the Aged, Overseas Medical Fellowship, Youth for Christ, World Vision, Singapore Bible College and Trinity Bible College.

He is also the Founding Member of the Asia-Pacific Association for study of Liver since 1978, a Member of the International Association for the study of Liver since 1980 and formerly an Honorary Secretary of the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore.

He has written publications on diagnostic and therapeutic G.I endoscopy, HSA-Ag status in peptic ulcer diseases, hepatoma and hepatitis and fulminant hepatic failure.

Dr Lee Boon Teck has been a Consultant General Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre since 1979.

He received his MBBS (1970) and Master of Medicine (General Surgery)(1974) from the University of Singapore (1970).

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1974), the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1974) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1976).

Dr Hong Ga Sze is a Senior Consultant Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and an Adjunct Associate Professor (Department of Surgery) at the National University of Singapore. He became the Founding Head of the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s Breast Unit in 2005 and was previously a Senior Surgical Consultant with the Singapore General Hospital and National Cancer Centre.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1983) and Master of Science in Human Molecular Genetics from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, St Mary’s Hospital, University of London (1992). He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland (1988) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1998).

Dr Hong underwent post-graduate training in surgical oncology (cancer) in the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1993. He worked as a Senior Registrar in the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and Christie Hospital, Manchester.

He became the first full-time surgeon of the National Cancer Centre, Singapore in 1999 and helped develop the National Cancer Centre by holding the posts of Clinical Co-ordinator as well as the founding Head of the Department of Cancer Informatics.

Dr Hong is a member of the Inquiry Committee Panel and Disciplinary Committee Panel, Singapore Supreme Court.

He is particularly recognized for his expertise in the management of breast disorders and breast cancer. He is also renowned in the surgical management of Head & Neck tumours including thyroid and parotid tumours.

His research interests include molecular genetics of well differentiated thyroid cancer, BRCA1 mutations in Singapore women with breast cancer, and the development of Clinical Oncology Databases in the National Cancer Centre.

Dr Jeyaraj Prema Raj is a Consultant Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and General Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously the Head of Hepatobiliary Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital, a Senior Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital and Visiting Consultant in Liver Transplantation at the National University Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Surgery)(1987) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow)(1987), the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1987) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1995). He was also the Examiner for the Pakistani College of Surgeons in Karachi (1999).

Dr Raj is a member of the Mount Elizabeth Advisory Board, Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee and a Member of the Board of Governors of CHIJ – Group of Schools. He was previously the Secretary for the Singapore Society for Transplantation, the Vice Chairman of the Chapter of Surgeons and Secretary for the Asian Transplantation Society Meeting (1999). He is currently the Secretary of the Council of the College of Surgeons Singapore and is the Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation at the Singapore General Hospital.

His area of interest is in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplantation and he has been the recipient of several grants related to the liver. His practice includes specialized areas such as complex biliary reconstruction, surgery for Klatskin Tumors, major liver surgery requiring hepatic vascular isolation, porto-caval shunting and major pancreatic operations. His general surgical practice includes surgery of the esophagus and stomach, colorectal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, piles surgery, lap band surgery, gastric bypass surgery and bile duct surgery.

Dr Teoh Tiong Ann is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and General Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1985) and Master of Medicine (Surgery)(1990) from the National University of Singapore under the auspices of a Singapore Government Public Services Commission Merit Scholarship. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1990) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1994).

Dr Teoh underwent Specialist Training at The Cleveland Clinic, Florida, USA, where he was a Fellow in the Department of Colorectal Surgery under a Singapore Government Health Manpower Development Plan Scholarship. He has authored and co-authored several articles in peer reviewed journals and a book chapter relating to Colorectal Cancer. He has also presented lectures at several International Conferences relating to Colorectal Surgery/Colorectal Cancer and Laparoscopic Surgery.

Dr Teoh is a Founding Member of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia and also a Founding member of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons of Singapore. He is also a Member of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and was previously a member of the Technologies Committee of this American Society.

Dr Teoh’s practice is mainly in Gastrointestinal Surgery / Colorectal Surgery / Laparoscopic Abdominal Surgery.

He is particularly recognized for in the field of Cancer Surgery for Colon and Rectal Cancers, surgical and non-surgical treatment of Hemorrhoids (Piles) and treatment of anal problems. Dr Teoh is also well known for his expertise in Laparoscopic (Key-Hole) Surgery for Gallstones, Appendix removal, Hernia etc.

He also performs Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy, Screening for Colorectal Cancer, and investigation and treatment of Abdominal/Gastrointestinal problems and General Surgery (hernia, stomach, intestines, gallbladder, etc.).

Dr Sitoh Yih Yiow is a Consultant Physician and Geriatrician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also currently the Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee at Mount Alvernia Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1991) from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1996. He was also awarded a Higher Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) fellowship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2000, during which he had the privilege of working as a clinical fellow with the Institute of Bone and Joint Research of the University of Sydney, and the Bernard Curran Rehabilitation Unit of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Services of Northern Sydney in Australia. He went on to complete his Specialist Certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training & the Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2001.

Dr Sitoh is an active member of the Society for Geriatric Medicine, Singapore, the Australian Society for Geriatric Medicine and the American Geriatric Society. He presents regularly at local and international scientific meetings organized by professional bodies. In addition, he is actively involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in different aspects of Geriatric Medicine and is a part-time lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

Dr Sitoh has extensive experience in the assessment and management of geriatric syndromes and has a special interest in geriatric rehabilitation, osteoporosis and other rheumatological conditions in older persons, and dementia. He has published widely in local and international journals, concerning a range of topics that include dementia, swallowing problems, falls and osteoporosis as well as concerns pertaining to health services.

Dr Lim Beng Hai is a Senior Consultant at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery) at the National University of Singapore. He was previously an Adjunct Assistant Professor (Department of Surgery) at the University of Louisville, USA, a Consultant Hand Surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital and the Chief of the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the National University Hospital (NUH).

He obtained his MBBS (1985) and Master of Medicine (General Surgery)(1991) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1991) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Orthopaedic Surgery)(1997).

Dr Lim took up an advanced Hand Surgery Traineeship in 1990 and was accredited as a Specialist in Hand Surgery in September 1998. He did his fellowship in Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Christine Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in 1994 and was awarded the prestigious Senior Fellowship in Hand Surgery by the University of Louisville Hospitals in 1995 to 1996.

He was the Associate Chairman of the Medical Board in 2001/2002 and Vice Chairman of the Medical Board 2003/2004 at the National University Hospital. Dr Lim set up the Microsurgical Training Laboratory in NUH in 2001 and was Program Director for the laboratory and started the joint training program in microsurgery with Aesculap Academy in 2003. The success of the Microsurgical training laboratory propelled him to set up the STAR (Skills, Training And Research) Laboratory in NUH in 2003. The STAR lab was further expanded to include Digital Medicine Laboratory.

As the Chief to the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, he started the Department’s annual cadaveric symposium and workshop for General Practitioners in 2000 and in 2001 the Foundations in Musculoskeletal Surgery for advanced trainees in Hand, Plastics and Orthopaedic surgery.

His research interests include the Wrist and Distal Radial Ulnar Joint, flexor tendon repairs and training and certification in microsurgery. His publications including some of his innovative surgical techniques are recognized by the international Hand Surgery community. Some of the techniques were cited in texts such as Green’s Operative Hand Surgery, Atlas of Hand Clinics and Grabbs Enclyclopedia for Flap Surgery.

Dr Kanwaljit Soin is a Consultant Orthopaedic & Hand Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. She was previously a Visiting Consultant (Hand Surgery Department) of the Singapore General Hospital.

She received her MBBS Hons (1966) when she graduated top of her class. She obtained her Master of Medicine (Surgery) (1970) from the University of Singapore, and she is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1970) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1975). Dr Soin was also the recipient of a Colombo Plan Scholarship to train in hand surgery in Australia in 1972. She is a member of Singapore Orthopaedic Association and was President of the Singapore Hand Society in 1989-1990.

Dr Soin was a Nominated Member of Parliament of Singapore from 1992 to 1996. In 1992, she was nominated "Woman of the Year" in Singapore. In 2000 she was presented “Women Who Make a Difference Award” by the International Women’s Forum, Washington D.C. Dr Soin has held numerous positions in welfare, advocacy and professional organizations.

She is presently the Vice Chair of HelpAge International which works with and for disadvantaged older people all over the world, and is the Chair of WINGS - “Women’s Initiative for Ageing Successfully” in Singapore. Dr Soin is on the Board of Consultants of the Osteoporosis Society (Singapore) and is a Board Member of Washington University International Advisory Board Council for Asia.

Dr Ronald Ng is a Consultant (Haematology) at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Senior Lecturer in Haematology at the University College Hospital Medical School, London, and the University of Hong Kong. In addition, he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA.

He received his MBBS from the University of Hong Kong (1969) and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1974). Dr Ng is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1983), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1984), and the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow)(1990).

He has served on the National Medical Research Council for two terms in the 1990s, and is a reviewer for the Annals of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore.

His area of interests in haematology includes anemias, leukemias, bleeding disorders and clotting disorders.

Dr Stephen Chew is a Consultant Nephrologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital and a Visiting Consultant at Changi General Hospital.

He earned his medical degree from the National University of Singapore, and subsequently his Masters of Medicine (Internal Medicine) before moving on to completing his training in renal medicine in 1998. He also worked as a research associate at Duke University in 1997. As a Consultant Nephrologist at the Singapore General Hospital, he ran a home-based peritoneal dialysis program while providing patient care in general nephrology and renal transplantation.

Dr Chew was also on the working committee of the Ministry of Health that developed clinical guidelines in glomerulonephritis and diabetes mellitus, the latter of which was launched in 2006.

Dr Akira Wu is a Consultant Nephrologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Nephrologist (Department of Renal Medicine) at the Singapore General Hospital and a Nephrologist at Prince Henry’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

He received his MBBS from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (1974). In 1981, he was awarded the Prince Henry’s Hospital Full-Time Specialist Scholarship to be a Renal Research Fellow. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1991).

Dr Wu has authored or co-authored widely in peer-reviewed international journals. He is a member of the National Committee on Renal Care, the Singapore Renal Registry and the Drug Evaluation Centre, Health Sciences Authority. He was previously the Chairman, Medical Advisory Board and Continuous Medical Education Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. His membership of societies includes: the International Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, the Australasian Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Hypertension and the European Renal Association & European Dialysis & Transplant Association. He is currently the Treasurer of Singapore Hypertension Society.

Dr Nei I-Ping is a Consultant Neurologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously the Head and Senior Consultant (Department of Neurology) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1970). In 1973, he went on an Exchange Scholarship of medical registrars between the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney and the Ministry of Health, Singapore. He was awarded the WHO Fellowship in Neurology to Belgium, UK and the US in 1977. Dr Nei is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1973) and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1976) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1977).

Dr Nei is an appointed member of the panel of medical experts for subordinate courts mediation service. He was also a member of the advisory committee for the governance of the National Neuroscience Institute and other National Centres, a member of the Clinical Neuroscience Center Advisory Committee in Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and an External assessor for exit assessment in Neurology, Academy of Medicine. His previous appointments include being Chairman of the National Committee on Neuroscience, member of the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital and member of the committee of Health Services Markets Subgroup, Economic Review Committee of Economic Development Board of Singapore.

Dr Andrew Pan is a Consultant Neurologist and Epileptologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant at the National Neuroscience Institute-Singapore General Hospital.

He received his MBBS at the National University of Singapore and is an accredited Neurologist with the Ministry of Health (Singapore). He is also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (Chapter of Neurology).

Dr Pan was an appointed Fellow with the Department of Neurology, Section of Epilepsy at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Ohio, USA) and was also awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship to further his sub-speciality training in Epilepsy. He was also schooled in Sleep Medicine and Intra-operative electrophysiology during his 2-year stint (1999-2000).

He is currently the Vice President of the Western Pacific Regional committee for the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and is also an appointed teacher and examiner for the Asian Epilepsy Academy.

Locally, Dr Pan is an office bearer of the Singapore Sleep Society and the Singapore Epilepsy Society and the medical advisor to the Singapore Epilepsy Foundation. He has also been appointed as a member of the Neurology Specialist Training Committee of the Ministry of Health, Singapore and the Vice-Chairman of the Chapter of Neurology, College of Physicians, Singapore. He was formerly a Consultant at the National Neuroscience Institute-Singapore General Hospital Campus, where he was the Service Director for EEG & Epilepsy.

Dr Pan has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed local and international journals. He has also been an invited speaker at conferences in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Australia, Thailand, Nepal, Japan and the USA.

Dr Alvin Hong is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the National Neuroscience Institute, Singapore General Hospital campus. Dr Hong is also a Visiting Consultant to the National Neuroscience Institute, National Cancer Centre, National University Hospital, Singapore Gamma Knife Centre, and Singapore General Hospital.

He received MB BChir from Cambridge University, UK (1985) and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh General Surgery in 1989, and Neurosurgery in 1994) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. In 1994, he was awarded the Norman Dott Gold medal for the top mark in the Intercollegiate Examination in Neurosurgery. In 1996, he spent time developing his expertise in spine surgery in the Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona, and radiosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco in the USA.

Dr Hong looks after, and operates on, problems affecting the brain, spine and nerves. He performs stereotactic craniotomies, radiosurgery, endoscopic pituitary surgery, thoracoscopic sympathectomies, as well as microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm. He has subspecialty interests in surgery of the skull base, pituitary surgery and spine surgery.

Dr Chia Yee Tien is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

She received her MBBS (1985) and her Master of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology)(1990) from the National University of Singapore. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1994). She also has a Certificate of Specialist Registration from the Singapore Medical Council (1998).

Dr Chia was formerly a Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, National University of Singapore, and a Senior Registrar at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, National University Hospital.

She has authored many articles in local, regional and international peer-reviewed journals. She is also the author of a book chapter on "Postpartum care and family planning" and has given lectures and talks at seminars and conferences.

Dr James Khoo is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital. He was previously a Visiting Consultant with the National Neuroscience Institute and the Founding Chairman of the National Neuroscience Institute.

He received his MBBS (1969) from the University of Singapore and Doctor of Medicine (1985) from the National University of Singapore. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1974) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1976). In 1970, he was awarded the Howard Eddey Gold Medal from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Khoo was also awarded a Colombo Plan Scholarship in 1972 where he did his training in the Royal Perth Hospital, Australia. He went on to receive a WHO Fellowship in Neurosurgery in USA and Canada in 1977.

His major research interests are Pineal Hormones – Melatonin, Cerebro-Vascular Disease, Stroke, Brain tumours, Neck and Lumbar Spine Disorders.

Dr Khoo is the Vice-Chairman, Ren Ci Hospital (for the chronic sick) and the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of Ren Ci Hospital. He was the Executive Producer of documentary films on Myanmar, Pagan-The Jeweled Kingdom and, Editor of Art & Archaeology of Fu Nan-Pre-Khmer Kingdom of the Lower Mekong Valley. He was also the former Chairman of the Asian Civilisations Museum. He is the present Chairman of the Conservation Advisory Panel. In recognition of his public services, Dr Khoo was awarded the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) in 1999.

Dr Yap Lip Kee is a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore. He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (London) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Previous positions held include Registrar & Lecturer, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Consultant Gynecologist, Singapore General Hospital, prior to entering private practice.

While practicing at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, he was invited back to K.K. Women’s and Children’s Hospital on a part-time basis to found and head the Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit between 1997 and 2003. He still maintains a link to the hospital as a Visiting Consultant.

Dr Yap’s interests tend to be specialised and are concentrated mainly in gynaecology. They include minimally invasive surgery, reproductive medicine and infertility. In particular he is a strong advocate and teacher of gynecological endoscopy (otherwise known as key-hole surgery). He is currently Medical Director of the Mt. Elizabeth Fertility Center.

He serves or has served on various professional committees both locally and internationally. These include the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (President 2001 -03), Singapore Medical Council (member, 1998 – 2007), and the Medical Advisory Board, Mount Elizabeth Hospital (Chairman, 2005 – 2007).

Dr Yeoh Swee Choo is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

She received her MBBS from the University of Singapore, Master of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from the National University of Singapore and Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (London) and of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Previous positions held include Senior Lecturer, Consultant Special Grade at the National University Hospital, and Deputy Head of the Centre for Molecular Medicine, National University of Singapore. She was a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital and has authored several scientific papers. Among several academic awards, she has won the MRCOG Prize Medal, the 4th Asia Oceania Congress of O&G Gold Medal and the Vera Brittain Visiting Fellowship, Oxford University.

Dr Yeoh has wide-ranging interests in obstetrics and gynaecology. In particular, these include feto-maternal medicine and general gynaecological practice. ”In-Clinic” services include high-resolution first and second trimester ultrasound scanning, gynaecology ultrasound scans, amniocentesis, colposcopy and other minor gynaecological procedures. Surgical interests include laparoscopic surgery as well as general gynaecological procedures.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr Yeoh serves on the National Medical Ethics Committee and is a member of the Panel of Medical Experts, Subordinate Courts, Court Mediation Service, Singapore. Dr Yeoh was also an examiner for the Master of Medicine (O & G) examinations, National University of Singapore.

Dr Kong Hwai Loong is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore and a Visiting Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at the National University Hospital. He is a Full Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Royal College of Physicians (UK), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and the Singapore Society of Oncology.

Dr Kong was previously the Executive Director of the Biomedical Research Council (Singapore’s equivalent of USA’s NIH and UK’s MRC), Deputy Managing Director (Integrative Sciences) of the Agency for Science, Technology And Research (A*STAR), Associate Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at the National University Hospital. Dr Kong was also was the Founding Director of the Singapore Genomics Program.

Dr Kong received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1988, when he graduated top of his medical class. He subsequently qualified in the Internal Medicine specialty in 1993 by earning his Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore, as well as his Membership to the Royal College of Physician (UK). In 1998, he received his specialist qualification in Medical Oncology from the Ministry of Health of Singapore, and was elected to be a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Medical Oncology). Dr Kong also received a Masters of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 2002. In 2004, Dr Kong was elected to be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh).

Dr Kong received his postgraduate medical fellowship training at the New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Centre between 1995 and 1997.

Dr Kong has won numerous awards, including Singapore’s Public Administration Medal (Silver) from the President of Singapore, two-times winner of the Singapore Youth Award (the highest accolade awarded to youths in Singapore), American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award (first Singapore doctor to win this award), Singapore Young Scientist Award, as well as many other academic awards during his medical career. Dr Kong was also listed in The Peak’s ‘Who’s Who of Singapore’.

Dr Kong specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adult cancers, with special interests in gastrointestinal/liver cancers, breast cancers and lung cancers. His research interests are in tumour angiogenesis (formation of blood vessels in cancers) and anti-angiogenesis (using drugs to destroy blood vessels in cancers), and cancer gene therapy. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured widely on oncology-related topics.

Dr Kong sits on a number of national committees. He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Ministry of Health’s Specialist Training Committee (Medical Oncology), which oversees the training and accreditation of medical oncologists in Singapore. He is also a Member of the Board of Governors of Raffles Girls’ School, the top girls’ secondary school in Singapore.

Dr Joanna Lin is a Consultant Oncologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. She was previously an Associate Consultant (Department of Medical Oncology) at the National University Hospital, and an Associate Professor (Department of Clinical Oncology) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong/Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong.

She obtained her MBBS from King’s College Hospital, London, England (1987) and worked in several London teaching hospitals in general internal medicine and oncology positions. She is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1991) and the Hong Kong College of Physicians (1994). Dr Lin is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians (1997), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1998) and the Academy of Medicine, Hong Kong (1998).

Dr Lin is the Medico-legal Adviser to Singapore (Medical Protection Society), and sits on the Singapore Medical Association Professional Indemnity Committee, Gleneagles Hospital CME Committee, Mount Elizabeth Hospital Accreditation Committee and the Singapore Society of Oncology Executive Committee.

She has written book chapters, had publications in several international journals and has presented papers in many regional and international medical oncology symposiums. She is an active committee member of the Singapore Society of Oncology which organizes lectures and meetings for oncology doctors in Singapore to interact with each other and in particular with visiting overseas oncologists. She also actively supports the hospice movement in Singapore, and has been a part time volunteer consultant at Assisi Home and Hospice. She has given lectures in support of patients and their support groups such as the Breast Cancer Foundation and the Singapore Cancer Society.

Her practice includes General Oncology Consultations, Cancer Chemotherapy and Cancer Screening.

Dr Yap-Whang Hwee Yong is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. She was previously an Associate Internist/Associate Professor of Medicine with the Department of Medicine at the MD Anderson Hospital in Texas, USA.

She received her MBBS from the University of Newcastle, England (1971) and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1974). She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (1975) and the American Board of Internal Medicine, Oncology Specialty (1977). Dr Yap-Whang is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (1984), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1984) and the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1985).

Dr Yap-Whang was previously a Committee Member of the Singapore Art Museum and the Asian Civilisations Museum Board.

She has a special interest in the areas of Cancer Chemotherapy and Clinical Pharmacology, Breast Cancer, the Central Nervous System and Hepatic Metastases. Dr Yap-Whang has wide experience in cancer patient care, both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors.

Dr Lee Chin Piaw is a Consultant Eye Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was a Visiting Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre for 16 years and was previously a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore General Hospital.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1977) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ophthalmology)(Glasgow)(1982), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1987) and the Royal College of Ophthalmology (UK)(1989).

Dr Lee has been specializing in Refractive, Corneal and Cataract-Intraocular Lens Implant Surgery since the 1980s. He started Radial Keratotomy in the Singapore General Hospital in 1987. His Excimer Laser experience began with the arrival of the first Excimer Laser in Singapore in 1992, and he now routinely does LASIK surgery for spectacle errors.

He has a special interest in advanced techniques in Sutureless Phacoemulsification and Intraocular Lens Implants Surgery. His schedule includes regular Live Surgery demonstrations and speaking at various local and overseas Ophthalmology conferences.

Dr Yeo Khee Quan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1970) and Master of Medicine (Surgery)(1974) from the University of Singapore, Master of Surgery (Orthopedics)(1976) from the University of Liverpool, and Master of Sports Medicine (2003) from the University of New South Wales. Dr Yeo also has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton (1993) and a Master of Law from the National University of Singapore (1999). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1974).

Dr Yeo is a Medical Advisor to the Ministry of Health in Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the Complaints Committee of the Singapore Medical Council and is on the Panel of Specialists to the Singapore Judiciary.

He is the author of a book entitled “Medico-Legal Responsibility in Singapore” (2000) and is the primary author of “Essentials of Medical Law” (2004). Dr Yeo is also author and co-author of numerous scientific papers, journals in international journals and medico-legal publications. He has also delivered conference papers in international conferences, congresses, scientific meetings, seminars, public talks and lectures.

Dr Yeo has a special interest in Sports Injuries, Sports arthroscopy (knee, shoulder, ankle, wrist, spine and cartilage resurfacing), Spine (prolapsed disc and spinal fusions with a special interest in keyhole surgery for removal of slipped disc under local anesthesia), Joint Replacements (knee, hip, shoulder, elbow with a special interest in the use of computer aided navigation in mini-incisions for total knee replacement), Hand (with a special interest in minimal access carpal tunnel release under local anesthesia as a clinic procedure using the KnifeliteÒ), Trauma (minimal access techniques for fracture managements) and Medico-Legal Interests (impairment and disability assessment).

Dr Chiang See Ping is a Consultant Paediatrician and Cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Consultant (Department of Paediatrics) at the Singapore General Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1967) and Master of Medicine (Paediatrics)(1971) from the University of Singapore. He is a member of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (1976) and a fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1974) and Royal Australian College of Physicians (1978).

Dr Chiang was a recipient of the Colombo Plan Fellowship for Paediatric Cardiology in 1975 and went to the UK to pursue his training. He was formerly the President of the Singapore Paediatric Society and a part-time Clinical Tutor with the National University of Singapore.

He has a special interest in paediatric cardiology and treats newborns and older children with paediatric problems in his private practice. He is also able to assess and diagnose children with heart problems.

Dr Lee Bee Wah is a Consultant Paediatrician and Clinical Paediatric Immunologist/Allergist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, an Adjunct Associate Professor (Department of Paediatrics) at the National University of Singapore, and a Visiting Senior Consultant Paediatrician (Children’s Medical Centre) at the National University Hospital.

She received her MBBS from the University of Singapore (1978). She also received her Master of Medicine (Paediatrics)(1981) and Doctor of Medicine (1991) from the National University of Singapore. She is a Fellow of Royal College of Paediatricians (Edinburgh)(1999), the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK)(2000) and the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology. She was also a Research Fellow in the Division of Allergy/Immunology at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, USA from 1986-1988.

Dr Lee has a special interest in the areas of Paediatric Allergic Diseases, Epidemiology of allergy diseases in children, Allergen characterisation - and dust mite allergens, Probiotics in the prevention of allergic diseases and Childhood Vaccines.

She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and is on the Board of Directors of the World Allergy Organization, is a Corresponding Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology and a Member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Dr Phuah Huan Kee is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist and Paediatrician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant of Neurology Service, Department of Paediatric Medicine, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).

He received his MBBS (1989) and Masters of Medicine (Paediatrics)(1994) from the National University of Singapore. Dr Phuah was a Child Neurology Fellow (Division of Paediatric Neurology) at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama, the paediatric teaching hospital of the University of Alabama in the USA, from 1997 to 2000. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2004.

Dr Phuah was previously a Consultant (Department of Paediatric Medicine) at KKH and served as Head of the Neurology Service (Department of Paediatric Medicine) at KKH and as a member of the Medical Board of the hospital.

He was the recipient of two Singhealth research grants, studying the utility of portable Video EEG monitoring for definitive diagnosis and characterization of seizures in children, and developing a database for Seizure Disorders in Children.

Dr Phuah has published in peer-reviewed journals and has a special interest in the evaluation of common neurological disorders in children (seizure disorders/epilepsy, headaches, developmental delay, involuntary movement, etc) and the evaluation of acute neurological emergencies in children (meningitis, encephalitis, refractory seizures, altered awareness, acute flaccid paralysis, strokes, etc).

He is an Associate Member of the American Academy of Neurology, and a member of the Singapore Paediatric Society, the Singapore Epilepsy Society and the Singapore Headache Society.

Dr Tan Chue Tin is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant at the Woodbridge Hospital/Institute of Mental Health, and an Examiner for the post-graduate degree of Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) at the National University of Singapore.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1971). He is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (London)(1975) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (1979) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1979). He is also a member of the American Psychiatrists Association (1998).

Dr Tan has been appointed by the Ministry of Health since 1999 to be a Member of the Specialists Training Committee for Psychiatry. He is a member of the Committee on Psychiatry, Postgraduate Medical Board, Medical Faculty, National University of Singapore, and sits on the Board of Assessors for Advanced Training in Psychiatry.

Dr Tay Liam Kai is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He has also been a Visiting Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital/Department of Psychological Medicine since 1996.

Dr Tay received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) (1988) from the National University of Singapore. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1990) and University of Washington, U.S.A. specializing in the management of anxiety and depressive disorders (1990-1991). He is also a member of the Board of Visitors, Institute of Mental Health since 2001 and the Past President of Singapore Psychiatric Association (1995-1996).

Dr Tay has over 10 years of teaching experience in psychiatric studies. He was a lecturer for Master in Medicine Course (Occupational Medicine) (1991 – 1999), Occupational Mental Health (1992-1998) and Diploma in Psychotherapy Course (2000-2001) at National University of Singapore. He is also a former lecturer to medical students and psychiatric trainees at the Institute of Mental Health (1988 – 1994) and has conducted psychiatric teaching courses for family physicians.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, concerning a range of topics that include depressive disorders, stress management and tardive dyskinesia.

Apart from his professional activities, Dr Tay is active in community work. He is a Member of the School Advisory Board at Choa Chu Kang Secondary School, former Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Singapore West (1995-1998) and Treasurer at the Singapore Association for Mental Health (1989-1990).

Dr Koh Wei Howe is a Consultant Rheumatologist & Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1985) and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom (1990). Dr Koh is also a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Medicine (Rheumatology)(1994), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1998), and the American College of Rheumatology (2005).

Dr Koh has published widely in local and international peer-reviewed journals and was formerly on the Editorial Board of the APLAR Journal of Rheumatology. He has written book chapters, and published a book, Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Guide Book for Patients.

He is the President of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (Singapore) and Chairman of the Therapeutic & Infection Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He was formerly a member of the Executive Committees of the Singapore Society of Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology, and the National Arthritis Foundation.

In 1993, Dr Koh was a recipient of the HMDP Fellowship Award for Rheumatology from the Singapore Ministry of Health where he worked at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, England.

Dr Koh’s special areas of interests include rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and gout.

Dr Chin Chong Min is a Senior Consultant Urologist whose practice is in Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery in the National University of Singapore and Visiting Consultant to the Department of Urology at National University Hospital.

Dr Chin graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1986. He obtained his fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCSG), Edinburgh (FRCSE) and Masters of Medicine (MMed) in Surgery in 1991. He began his Urology training in 1994, which included a year at Bristol Urological Institute in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 1997, where he served as a clinical specialist registrar majoring in oncology, urinary incontinence and urodynamics.

Dr Chin is renown for his surgical expertise in cancers of the kidney, bladder, testis and prostate, and performs laparoscopic procedures for urological cancers. He is also accredited to do Robotic Prostatectomy on the da Vinci surgical system. His other specialty is in lower urinary tract dysfunction, including prostate disease, bladder disorders, urinary incontinence, urodynamics and erectile dysfunction. He is one of the few urologists who do Greenlight laser prostectomy for men with benign prostate enlargement (BPH). In the area of female urology, he was amongst the first urologists to perform the Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT), a minimally-invasive procedure for correcting stress incontinence in women since 1999. He has done more than 100 TVT procedures, and is one of the designated preceptors to teach TVT surgery. In the surgical management of urinary stones, he is trained in Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) method. He also developed his own technique of doing holmium laser fragmentation of ureter stones.

In the area of academia, Dr Chin has collaborated in many research projects, from clinical to pharmacological trials, epidemiological surveys and animal bladder experimentation. He has presented his research and clinical work at many international meetings. His publications include 21 peer-reviewed papers, 5 book chapters, and is author of the 2nd edition of Clinical Handbook on Management of Incontinence published by the Singapore Society for Continence. He is chairman of the committee which drafted the Clinical Practice Guidelines on ‘Management of Urinary Incontinence’ (2008). An active member of the Singapore Urological Association, he is the current Vice-President (2007- ), and Chairman of the Incontinence Subcommittee; past positions being Honorary Treasurer, and member of the Research Subcommittee. Over the years, he has organized not only scientific meetings and workshops but also public events like prostate awareness week, continence day, and men’s health symposiums.

Dr Tan Eng Choon is a Consultant Urologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant Urologist at the National University Hospital and Singapore General Hospital, a Member of the Advisory Committee on Urology with the Ministry of Health and a Kidney Transplant Surgeon with the Ministry of Health.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1976) and his Master of Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore (1981). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1981), the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow)(1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1986). Dr Tan also completed a one-year China Medical Board Fellowship in Urology (Institute of Urology, London, and Department of Urology, Mayo Clinic) in 1984.

Dr Tan was previously the President of the Urological Association of Asia, the President of the Singapore Urological Association, a Council Member of the Asia-Pacific Society for Impotence Research and a Council Member of the Federation of Asian Urological Association.

In addition to the common endoscopic surgery of the lower urinary tract such as transurethral resection of the prostate gland and bladder tumours, Dr Tans special interests include new technology in the treatment of urinary stones with non-invasive Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy to remove ureteric stones as well as percutaneous nephrolithotripsy for large staghorn stones. He also treats urological cancer of the prostate, bladder, kidneys and testes using both conventional open surgery as well as minimally invasive techniques and newer robotic surgery for prostate cancer. Dr Tan is actively involved in living-related kidney transplantation as well as treatment of male subfertility and reconstructive surgery.

Dr Chan Tiong Beng is a respiratory consultant at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Senior Consultant (Respiratory Unit) at the National University Hospital and an Associate Professor (Medical Department) at the National University of Singapore.

He received his MBBS (1976) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1981) from the University of Singapore. Dr Chan received his post-graduate training in the Respiratory Department, Guy’s Hospital, London in 1984. Subsequently, he spent 6 months sabbatical leave at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) General Hospital and Stanford University in 1991.

Dr Chan is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1987) and the College of Chest Physicians, USA (1991). His main area of interest and research is in the field of chronic cough, chest infection, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He also served as the president of the Singapore Thoracic Society (1992-1993) and Asthma Association (1996-1998). At present, he is serving as a Specialist in the Specialist Medical Board, Military Medicine Institute, Singapore Armed Forces and on the Subordinate Court’s Mediation Panel.

Dr Cheong Tuck Hong is a Respiratory Consultant at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant (Department of Medicine) at Changi General Hospital. He was previously a Senior Consultant (Department of Respiratory Medicine) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) (1987) from the National University of Singapore. He received his MRCP (UK) in 1986. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1992). Dr Cheong also received post-graduate training in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada in 1989.

Dr Cheong is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital and was previously the Chairman of the SARS Prevention Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital (2003-2004). He is currently the Vice-President of the Singapore Sleep Society.

He has special interest in the following areas: Chronic cough, Obstructive airway disease (asthma and smoking-related lung diseases), Carcinoma of the lung, Sleep apnoea syndromes (especially snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome) and Interventional Bronchology (Transbronchial lung biopsy and bronchoalveolar lavage, and transbronchial needle aspiration).

Dr Ong Kian Chung is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore and a Visiting Consultant to the National Heart Centre and St. Luke’s Hospital. He was previously a Senior Respiratory Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He completed his MBBS at the National University of Singapore (1987), was accepted as a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom (1993) and subsequently completed his specialist training in Respiratory Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Ong was a Fellow in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Stanford University Medical Center, USA, and was also a visiting clinical and research Fellow in the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Research Center, USA (1996-97).

Dr Ong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh, the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), and the Academy of Medicine (AM), Singapore.

Among Dr Ongs clinical achievements are the establishment of novel treatment modalities such as Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Noninvasive Ventilation and Hospital-at-Home Programs for patients with chronic respiratory disorders in Singapore. His research interests include Sleep-related Breathing Disorders, Pulmonary Function and Exercise Testing, and Disease Management in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

During the world-wide outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003, Dr Ong was a member of the SARS Intensive Care Unit Treatment Team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which was Singapore’s dedicated SARS hospital at that time. After the outbreak, Dr Ong received the Courage Star Award presented to healthcare workers for valour and selfless dedication.

Dr Ong is the principal author of more than 30 publications in national and international peer-reviewed medical journals such as CHEST, European Respiratory Journal and American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, and regularly presents his research findings at major scientific congresses. He is a reviewer for the journals CHEST, Respirology, Critical Care and the Singapore Medical Journal, and was the past Editor of the Medical Digest. Presently he is also the co-editor-in-chief (Asia Section) of the journal "Update in Respiratory Technology and Applied Technology".

He is the President of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Association (Singapore) and is recognized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease as the National Leader in Singapore.
