Dr. Ansgar C. Cheng is a Consultant Dental Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his dental degree from the University of Hong Kong (1990), Master of Science and Certificate in Prosthodontics from Northwestern University, Chicago (1992) and a Certificate in Maxillofacial Prosthetics from UCLA (1993).

Dr Winston Jong is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. Dr Maurice Choo is a Consultant Cardiologist and Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. His subspecialty is interventional cardiology. He received his MBBS (1974) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1978) from the University of Singapore, and his Doctor of Medicine from the National University of Singapore (1993). His doctorate involved research on lipoproteins, Lp(a) and coronary angiographic disease.

Dr Choo completed his Fellowship in Cardiology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1981. Dr Bernard Kwok is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and a Senior Consultant at the National Heart Centre of Singapore.

Dr Kwok received his MBBS (1990) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) (1996) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) (1996) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2003) and the American College of Cardiology (2007). Dr Kwok received his training in cardiology at the National University Hospital in Singapore, and went on to complete a fellowship in Heart Failure & Heart Transplantation at Stanford University School of Medicine in USA (1998). He is the first Heart Failure Specialist Cardiologist in Singapore, and the first local qualified Transplant Cardiologist. Dr Kwok is also accredited as an Exercise Specialist by American College of Sports Medicine.

Besides his clinical work, Dr Kwok is the Chairman of the Committee for Clinical Pathway for Heart Failure and Heart Failure Advisory Committee at the National Heart Centre and Singapore Cardiac Data Bank respectively. He is also a council member of the Singapore Cardiac Society, a life member of the Singapore Society of Transplantation and member of the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation.

With a keen interest in teaching, Dr Kwok is currently a Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and a Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences at Nanyang Polytechnic. Dr Low Lip Ping is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a Visiting Consultant to the Cardiac Department and the Heart Institute at the National University Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant to the Singapore General Hospital and the Singapore National Heart Centre. He was previously an Associate Professor of Medicine (Department of Medicine) at the National University of Singapore. He is also Honorary Consultant to the SATA Chest & Heart Clinic.

He received his MBBS at the University of Singapore (1965) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr Low is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Singapore Heart Foundation and founder President of the Singapore Hypertension Society. He was formerly the President of the Singapore Medical Association and of the Singapore Cardiac Society. He is a past President of the Asian Pacific Society of Hypertension, founder President of the Asia Pacific Heart Network, and was a previous continental representative to the Executive Board of the World Heart Federation.

Dr Low has served on a number of governmental and public committees including the National Cardiac Care Committee, the Healthy Lifestyle Committee, the Advisory Committee on Cardiac Care (Cardiology) Ministry, Specialist Training Committee for Cardiology (Specialist Accreditation Board), Expert Panel for Cardiology (Centre for Pharmaceutical Administration and Centre for Drug Evaluation, Health Sciences Authority), the Complaints Committee of the Singapore Medical Council, the Panel of Specialists for the Advanced Medical Directive, the Panel of Experts for subordinate courts mediation service and the National Resuscitation Council.

He is Chairman of the Ministry of Health Workgroup on the Singapore Hypertension Clinical Practice Guidelines and a member of the committee on the Singapore Clinical Practice Guidelines on Lipids. In addition, Dr Low has served on several advisory boards of multinational pharmaceutical companies.

Dr Low has participated in the organization of and spoken at many local and international medical meetings. He has been an author or co-author of more than 70 scientific papers and has been on the editorial board of several scientific journals.

For his national and international contributions he was conferred the Public Service Star (BBM) in the National Day Awards 2001 by the President of Singapore.

He is also a Senior Consultant Cardiologist, National Heart Center, a Visiting Consultant Cardiologist, National University Hospital, a Clinical Teacher (Department of Medicine), National University of Singapore and the Director of Electrophysiology and Pacing at the National Heart Centre.

He received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1987) from the National University of Singapore. He started his cardiology training in the Department of Cardiology, Singapore General Hospital in 1987 and went for advanced training in Cardiology (Cardiac Electrophysiology & Pacing) in London, Ontario, Canada under the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan Fellowship in 1989.

Dr Teo is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)(1987) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1992), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1998) and the American College of Cardiology (1998). He was previously Director of the Heart Lung Transplant Program at the National Heart Centre, a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the National Heart Centre, a Visiting Consultant to the National University Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1984) with distinctions in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1988), the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1995), the International College of Surgeons (USA)(2006) and the American College of Cardiology (2006). Dr Tan also was a Clinical Fellow in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, USA (1992) and at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA (1993).

Dr Tan has extensive experience in adult cardiac surgery including using multiple arterial conduits for coronary artery bypass surgery, off pump coronary artery bypass, mitral and aortic valve repair and replacement surgery, Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation, surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm, heart transplants, ventricular assist devices, ECMO and heart failure surgery. Dr Tong Ming Chuan, or Dr M.C. Tong, as he is known to his patients, is a Consultant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1973) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon (Glasgow)(1978), the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1981).

He was previously the Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital and the Director of both the Heart and Lung Transplant Programs at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Tong pioneered the first Heart Transplant in July 1990 and also led the first Lung Transplant in Nov 2000. He was the Chairman of Medical Advisory Board at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, the Secretary-General for the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons in Asia, a member in the Editorial Board for The Asia Pacific Heart Journal & Annals of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, and a member for Advisory Board for Asian Cardiovascular & Thoracic Annals.

Dr Tong’s main specialty is in adult heart surgery. He has extensive experience in coronary artery bypass surgery. He is one of the pioneers for all arterial grafts for CABG, minimal invasive CABG and off pump CABG in Singapore.

He has published extensively in both local and international peer-reviewed journals and has been speaker at conferences in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, Bangladesh and the USA. Dr Wong has also been a reviewer for several journals including Asian Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Annals, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Wong has performed more than 3,500 cardiac surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), aortic and mitral valve procedures, and more than 500 thoracic surgeries including lung resection for malignancies and video-assisted thorascopic surgery.

His research interests include the assessment of myocardial injury and C-reactive protein after CABG surgery, the roles of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulphide in human arteries with diabetes and hypertension, foetal lung tissue in the co-culture of human embryonic stem cells with foetal lung tissue, and other projects related to cell lung cancers and tumour cells.

Dr Cheong Lai Leng is a Consultant Dermatologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), in 1985. She then obtained her Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom).

Dr Cheong completed her residency training in dermatology at the National Skin Centre, Singapore, in 1993. Her subspecialty training in the field of Dermatologic Surgery was undertaken at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation at Cleveland, Ohio, USA, in 1994-95. Dr Cheong was conferred fellowship of the Academy of Medicine (Dermatology), Singapore in 1996 and obtained accreditation as a dermatologist by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.

She has been practicing dermatology for over a decade. Much of her time is focused on the surgical management of dermatological conditions and the practice of cosmetic dermatology. She has lectured at medical conferences as well as public forums on topics in her area of professional interest which include laser therapy, cold-steel surgery, cosmetic dermatology, techniques in skin resurfacing with the carbon dioxide laser and CoolTouch3 laser, photorejuvenation of the skin, Thermage® tissue tightening and hair transplantation. He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1977) and was conferred the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore in 1981. Dr Lee trained in Dermatology at St Johns Diseases of the Skin in London and obtained his Diploma of Dermatology from London University in 1983. He was also trained in London in Sexually Transmitted Diseases and obtained his Diploma of Venereology from London University in 1983.

Dr Lee completed his residency in Dermatology at Middle Road Hospital for Diseases of the Skin and National Skin Centre. He underwent sub-speciality training in Dermatosurgery, Laser surgery and Dermatopathology at Duke University Medical Centre in North Carolina and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 1988/89. In 2000, he was the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital Scientific Meeting, which had a theme of “Paediatric ENT”, with a special focus on Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children. He has also been interviewed on live Chinese radio programmes, giving advice on ENT topics.

Dr Lau is an appointed medical expert and specialist (ENT) of the Panel of Medical Experts, Subordinate Courts, Court Mediation Service, Singapore. He has served on many boards and panels of various embassies, legal bodies and professional associations and societies, including the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Dr Peter Eng is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Center, Singapore. He is currently appointed as a Visiting Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital as well as a Visiting Consultant with Dover Park Hospice.

He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and was subsequently admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1994. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2006.

Dr Eng’s training in endocrinology was at the Singapore General Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Singapore. After completing his training in endocrinology, he was awarded a fellowship under the Singapore Health Manpower Development Program to further his training at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston from 1998 -1999. This was followed by a research fellowship training award from the National Medical Research Council from 1999-2000. At the Brigham’s, he trained with Professor Lewis Braverman and Dr William Chin. It was during this fellowship training that he won the prestigious Knoll Thyroid Research Clinical Fellowship Award at meeting of the American Endocrine Society in 1999. This was awarded for outstanding research in the thyroid field.

He served as a Senior Consultant in the Singapore General Hospital Department of Endocrinology as well as the Director of the Diabetes Centre at the Singapore General Hospital till 2006, when he started his own private practice at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Dr Lim Beng Hai is a Senior Consultant at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery) at the National University of Singapore. He was previously an Adjunct Assistant Professor (Department of Surgery) at the University of Louisville, USA, a Consultant Hand Surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital and the Chief of the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the National University Hospital (NUH).

He obtained his MBBS (1985) and Master of Medicine (General Surgery)(1991) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1991) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Orthopaedic Surgery)(1997).

Dr Lim took up an advanced Hand Surgery Traineeship in 1990 and was accredited as a Specialist in Hand Surgery in September 1998. He did his fellowship in Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Christine Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in 1994 and was awarded the prestigious Senior Fellowship in Hand Surgery by the University of Louisville Hospitals in 1995 to 1996.

He was the Associate Chairman of the Medical Board in 2001/2002 and Vice Chairman of the Medical Board 2003/2004 at the National University Hospital. Dr Lim set up the Microsurgical Training Laboratory in NUH in 2001 and was Program Director for the laboratory and started the joint training program in microsurgery with Aesculap Academy in 2003. The success of the Microsurgical training laboratory propelled him to set up the STAR (Skills, Training And Research) Laboratory in NUH in 2003. The STAR lab was further expanded to include Digital Medicine Laboratory.

As the Chief to the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, he started the Department’s annual cadaveric symposium and workshop for General Practitioners in 2000 and in 2001 the Foundations in Musculoskeletal Surgery for advanced trainees in Hand, Plastics and Orthopaedic surgery.

Dr Kong was previously the Executive Director of the Biomedical Research Council (Singapore’s equivalent of USA’s NIH and UK’s MRC), Deputy Managing Director (Integrative Sciences) of the Agency for Science, Technology And Research (A*STAR), Associate Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at the National University Hospital. Dr Kong was also was the Founding Director of the Singapore Genomics Program.

Dr Kong received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1988, when he graduated top of his medical class. Dr Tan has been appointed by the Ministry of Health since 1999 to be a Member of the Specialists Training Committee for Psychiatry. He is a member of the Committee on Psychiatry, Postgraduate Medical Board, Medical Faculty, National University of Singapore, and sits on the Board of Assessors for Advanced Training in Psychiatry.

Dr Tay Liam Kai is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He has also been a Visiting Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital/Department of Psychological Medicine since 1996.

Dr Tay received his MBBS (1982) and Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) (1988) from the National University of Singapore. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1990) and University of Washington, U.S.A. specializing in the management of anxiety and depressive disorders (1990-1991). He is also a member of the Board of Visitors, Institute of Mental Health since 2001 and the Past President of Singapore Psychiatric Association (1995-1996).

Dr Tay has over 10 years of teaching experience in psychiatric studies. He was a lecturer for Master in Medicine Course (Occupational Medicine) (1991 – 1999), Occupational Mental Health (1992-1998) and Diploma in Psychotherapy Course (2000-2001) at National University of Singapore. He is also a former lecturer to medical students and psychiatric trainees at the Institute of Mental Health (1988 – 1994) and has conducted psychiatric teaching courses for family physicians.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, concerning a range of topics that include depressive disorders, stress management and tardive dyskinesia.

Dr Koh Wei Howe is a Consultant Rheumatologist & Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

He received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1985) and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom (1990). Dr Koh is also a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Medicine (Rheumatology)(1994), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)(1998), and the American College of Rheumatology (2005).

Dr Koh has published widely in local and international peer-reviewed journals and was formerly on the Editorial Board of the APLAR Journal of Rheumatology. He has written book chapters, and published a book, Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Guide Book for Patients.

He is the President of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (Singapore) and Chairman of the Therapeutic & Infection Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital. In 1993, Dr Koh was a recipient of the HMDP Fellowship Award for Rheumatology from the Singapore Ministry of Health where he worked at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, England.

Dr Chin Chong Min

Dr Chin Chong Min is a Senior Consultant Urologist whose practice is in Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery in the National University of Singapore and Visiting Consultant to the Department of Urology at National University Hospital.

Dr Chin graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1986. He obtained his fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCSG), Edinburgh (FRCSE) and Masters of Medicine (MMed) in Surgery in 1991. He began his Urology training in 1994, which included a year at Bristol Urological Institute in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 1997, where he served as a clinical specialist registrar majoring in oncology, urinary incontinence and urodynamics.

Dr Chin is renown for his surgical expertise in cancers of the kidney, bladder, testis and prostate, and performs laparoscopic procedures for urological cancers. He is also accredited to do Robotic Prostatectomy on the da Vinci surgical system. His other specialty is in lower urinary tract dysfunction, including prostate disease, bladder disorders, urinary incontinence, urodynamics and erectile dysfunction. He is one of the few urologists who do Greenlight laser prostectomy for men with benign prostate enlargement (BPH). In the area of female urology, he was amongst the first urologists to perform the Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT), a minimally-invasive procedure for correcting stress incontinence in women since 1999. He has done more than 100 TVT procedures, and is one of the designated preceptors to teach TVT surgery. In the surgical management of urinary stones, he is trained in Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) method. He also developed his own technique of doing holmium laser fragmentation of ureter stones.

In the area of academia, Dr Chin has collaborated in many research projects, from clinical to pharmacological trials, epidemiological surveys and animal bladder experimentation. He has presented his research and clinical work at many international meetings. His publications include 21 peer-reviewed papers, 5 book chapters, and is author of the 2nd edition of Clinical Handbook on Management of Incontinence published by the Singapore Society for Continence. He is chairman of the committee which drafted the Clinical Practice Guidelines on ‘Management of Urinary Incontinence’ (2008). An active member of the Singapore Urological Association, he is the current Vice-President (2007- ), and Chairman of the Incontinence Subcommittee; past positions being Honorary Treasurer, and member of the Research Subcommittee. Over the years, he has organized not only scientific meetings and workshops but also public events like prostate awareness week, continence day, and men’s health symposiums.

Dr Tan Eng Choon is a Consultant Urologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant Urologist at the National University Hospital and Singapore General Hospital, a Member of the Advisory Committee on Urology with the Ministry of Health and a Kidney Transplant Surgeon with the Ministry of Health.

He received his MBBS from the University of Singapore (1976) and his Master of Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore (1981). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)(1981), the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow)(1981) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (1986). Dr Tan also completed a one-year China Medical Board Fellowship in Urology (Institute of Urology, London, and Department of Urology, Mayo Clinic) in 1984.

Dr Tan was previously the President of the Urological Association of Asia, the President of the Singapore Urological Association, a Council Member of the Asia-Pacific Society for Impotence Research and a Council Member of the Federation of Asian Urological Association.

In addition to the common endoscopic surgery of the lower urinary tract such as transurethral resection of the prostate gland and bladder tumours, Dr Tans special interests include new technology in the treatment of urinary stones with non-invasive Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy to remove ureteric stones as well as percutaneous nephrolithotripsy for large staghorn stones. He also treats urological cancer of the prostate, bladder, kidneys and testes using both conventional open surgery as well as minimally invasive techniques and newer robotic surgery for prostate cancer. Dr Tan is actively involved in living-related kidney transplantation as well as treatment of male subfertility and reconstructive surgery.

Dr Chan Tiong Beng is a respiratory consultant at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He was previously a Senior Consultant (Respiratory Unit) at the National University Hospital and an Associate Professor (Medical Department) at the National University of Singapore.

He received his MBBS (1976) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine)(1981) from the University of Singapore. Dr Chan received his post-graduate training in the Respiratory Department, Guy’s Hospital, London in 1984. Dr Ong Kian Chung is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore and a Visiting Consultant to the National Heart Centre and St. Luke’s Hospital. He was previously a Senior Respiratory Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He completed his MBBS at the National University of Singapore (1987), was accepted as a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom (1993) and subsequently completed his specialist training in Respiratory Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Ong was a Fellow in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Stanford University Medical Center, USA, and was also a visiting clinical and research Fellow in the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Research Center, USA (1996-97).

Dr Ong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh, the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), and the Academy of Medicine (AM), Singapore.

Among Dr Ongs clinical achievements are the establishment of novel treatment modalities such as Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Noninvasive Ventilation and Hospital-at-Home Programs for patients with chronic respiratory disorders in Singapore. His research interests include Sleep-related Breathing Disorders, Pulmonary Function and Exercise Testing, and Disease Management in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

During the world-wide outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003, Dr Ong was a member of the SARS Intensive Care Unit Treatment Team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which was Singapore’s dedicated SARS hospital at that time. After the outbreak, Dr Ong received the Courage Star Award presented to healthcare workers for valour and selfless dedication.

Dr Ong is the principal author of more than 30 publications in national and international peer-reviewed medical journals such as CHEST, European Respiratory Journal and American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, and regularly presents his research findings at major scientific congresses. He is a reviewer for the journals CHEST, Respirology, Critical Care and the Singapore Medical Journal, and was the past Editor of the Medical Digest. Presently he is also the co-editor-in-chief (Asia Section) of the journal "Update in Respiratory Technology and Applied Technology".

He is the President of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Association (Singapore) and is recognized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease as the National Leader in Singapore.
