Cosmetic Surgery in Poland
A guide to plastic surgery regulations in Poland
I found the perfect dentist and saved a fortune. Thank you RevaHealth.com
Organizations
The Ministry of Health holds overall responsiblitiy for the management of healthcare within Poland.
Doctors are registered with the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists. This is an independant body responsible for overseeing the profession in Poland. It is divided into 24 regional chambers with activities co-ordinated by the Supreme Medical Council.
The Polish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons is the main professional body representing plastic surgeons in Poland. Plastic surgeons specialising in head and neck surgery may also be members of The Polish Society of Otorhinolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons.
Education
The basic medical degree takes 6 years. Graduates are awarded the title Lekarz and following this doctors either complete a compulsory 1 year internship or apply for training in one of the basic specialties: internal medicine, emergency medicine or family medicine.
Plastic surgeons hold a Specialist Diploma with the title "Chirurgia plastyczna" representing addtional specialist training of 5 years - This is commonly refered to as the "second-level specialization degree in plastic surgery".
Poland operates a mandatory system of compulsory continuing education with all doctors required to amass 250 continuing education points in a 5 year period. Continuing education points are only valid for accreditited courses and failure to gain the required number of points results in the suspension of the right to practice. Professional organizations such as the Polish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons help organize training and seminars specific to their specialties.
Over 20,000 patients have used RevaHealth.com to find the right clinic or hospital for them.
Complaints
A Screener for Professional Liability (SPL) investigates any complaint against a medical professional. Their findings are adjudicated by a regional medical court. Appeals are sent to the supreme medical court. Full details are available on the site of the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists in the reference section below.
Storage and Access to Medical Records
Polish doctors are bound by both ethical and legal constraints to respect patient confidentiality and ensure the security of their data.
Information must be stored in paper form but may be backed up by electronic means. The Act on Access to Public Information (6th September 2001) mandates an individuals right to access information stored about them and includes sections on access to medical data. As an E.U member Poland has an additional requirement to comply with the E.U's laws on data protection and access.

Acne and Scar removal
US$1448 ~ US$1448
Arm-lift
US$2701 ~ US$2701
Show Details
Excessive skin and loose subcutaneous tissue on the upper arms may cause sagging, sometimes referred to as "bat wings". This happens most often after a substantial weight loss, and cannot be improved by diet or physical activity. The incision are made on the inner and under surfaces of the arms, and the excess skin and subcutaneous tissue are removed. The remaining skin is sutured under a slight tension, to provide a slim and smooth surface. This procedure is performed under a general anaesthesia and an overnight stay in the Clinic is advisable.
Breast augmentation
US$3643 ~ US$3943
Show Details
Surprisingly many women have their breasts unproportionally small. This may cause severe psychological complications, making it difficult to find clothes which fit correctly, sometimes preventing the enjoyment of sport or other physical activities, and may disrupt sexual self-confidence. This condition is most often congenital, but may also happen after breastfeeding.Breast enlargement (augmentation) remains one of the most popular (and most satisfying) plastic surgery procedures worldwide. It is performed by placing silicone implants (endoprostheses) behind the breasts, most often under the underlying big pectoral muscles. Selection of the most appropriate prostheses should be done individually and with great care, during the initial consultation with your surgeon. The shape and size of the chest, pectoral musculature and skin elasticity should be taken into an account, and the final size should be adjusted to the patient's overall figure. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and a 1 day stay in the Clinic is advised. In the early postoperative period it is advisable to refrain from active physical exercise (like lifting heavy objects etc.). As breast implants are placed behind the mammary glands, they do not interfere neither with eventual breastfeeding afterwards nor future breast examination (sonography or mammography). There is also no scientific evidence that implants may be associated with development of any medical problems.
Breast lift
US$2701 ~ US$2701
Show Details
Breast Lift (mastopexy). This procedure corrects the shape of "sagging" breasts by repositioning the breast gland with the nipple and areola upwards and, concurrently, excising flabby, stretched skin. "Sagging" occurs most often as a result of breast-feeding, drastic weight loss or, simply, due to ageing. This type of surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia. In exceptional cases (small breasts), one may consider combining local and venal anaesthesia. Surgical scars are located around and beneath the areola, there are no scars above it, for example in the low-cut neck area. The breast-lift operation may also be used to correct significant asymmetry (for example, one breast "sagging" more than the other). The breast-lift surgery does not disturb the gland, so breast feeding later on will not be a problem. The most important thing following surgery is to provide proper healing conditions and secure the oprated area against accidental injury. The breasts are initially protected by pressure dressings wrapped in an elastic bandage, then by a surgical brassiere. During the initial months, the brassiere must be worn day and night.
Breast reduction
US$3450 ~ US$3450
Show Details
Severe breast overgrowth (hypertrophy) may be congenital, but it may also develop after breastfeeding or just with age. It makes one feel unproportional, one may find it difficult to find properly fitting clothes, or to participate actively in physical exercise. Untreated, it may cause back pain and even spine deformities, due to a spine overload.Breast overgrowth may be successfully treated by surgery. Hypertrophy is always accompanied by drooping, so the surgery consists of both reduction of the excess glandular and fat tissues, and of breast uplift. The extent of breast reduction is always set individually during the initial consultation. The incisions used are similar as in breast uplifting (mastopexy). The procedure is always performed under general anaesthesia, and at least 1 day stay in the Clinic is advisable. Well fitted bra should be used for several weeks after the surgery, to enhance proper healing.
Buttock lift
US$2997 ~ US$3905
Show Details
Thigh and buttock lift. Excessive loose skin on thighs and buttocks results in sagging which cannot be improved by physical exercise or dieting. Surgical removal of excess skin and subcutaneous tissue is called thigh or buttock lift. The incisions are made in well hidden areas to minimize visibility of future scars. They may be placed high in the inner thighs or well above the buttocks. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and a 1-2 days stay in the Clinic is recommended. Wearing a compression garment after the surgery reduces the swelling and assists in shrinking and tightening of the remaining skin.
Ear pinning
US$1718 ~ US$1718
Show Details
Protruding ears are a relatively common disfigurement; they may cause great concern both among children and in time of adolescence. The disfigurement may affect the whole ear or only the upper or lower part, it may be symmetrical or different on each side.Prominent ears correction (or ear pinning) is performed through the incisions made on the back surface of the ear. Local anaesthesia is sufficient, so overnight stay in the Clinic is not necessary, but general anaesthesia may also be offered, if preferred by the patient. The adjustments are made to the cartilage, and the excess skin is removed. As a result - the ears lie close to the head. A dressing over the ears is applied for 7-10 days, and a protective headgear is required for some time afterwards, especially at night. The scars are well hidden, as they lay in the groove between the ears and head.
Eye-lift/brightening
US$1878 ~ US$2361
Show Details
Upper & lower eyelid correction. Eyelid skin is exceptionally thin and is thus susceptible to stretching. With time, stretched skin turns into an overhang which forms into a fold. Radial wrinkles (crow's feet) appear around the outer edge of the eye. Lower eyelids may bulge, which is known as bags under the eyes.Upper eyelid surgery is more common. Excess skin is removed and incisions are planned so as to place the future scar in the crease of the eyelid where it will be practically invisible.Bags under the eyes can also be eliminated through removal of excess fat tissue. The presence of an anaesthesiologist is recommended so that he can administer painkillers and sedatives intravenously. Rest and cooling gel or ice water compresses are recommended after surgery.
Face-lift
US$3075 ~ US$3075
Show Details
With age face skin loses its elasticity and becomes stretched and flaccid. Facial muscles become less tensed and subcutaneous tissue may become atrophic - resulting in the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Paranasal folds become more prominent, skin overhangs appear on both cheeks and transverse neck wrinkles become more visible.Only surgery may improve the appearance at this stage. A facelift is an operation to lift face muscles and skin, remove the excess skin and give face a tighter and smoother appearance. The procedure is done under both intravenous and local anaesthesia. An anaesthetist is present during the whole surgery, to provide full safety and comfort to the patient. Skin incisions start at temporal region (within hair bearing area) past the front of the ear, go around the earlobe and end within haired skin behind the ear. Pressure dressings are put on afterwards. An overnight stay in the Clinic is advisable. The scarring is minimal and may usually be hidden underneath hair.
Liposuction
US$1718 ~ US$3075
Show Details
Excessive fat tissue (fat deposits), which cannot be removed by regular physical activity or special diet, may accumulate in certain regions of the body, most often - abdomen, hips and thighs. This can only be removed by a procedure called liposuction.Special cannulas of different sizes are inserted into the affected regions through minute incisions. These cannulas are moved around and fat is sucked out using a vacuum pump or a syringe. A patient's figure can be modeled (sculptured) this way - that is why this procedure is often called - body sculpture. Depending on fat deposits location and size, general or local anaesthesia is applied, and an overnight stay in the Clinic is advisable. Special elastic garment should be used in the immediate postoperative period. It takes some time for the swelling to settle down, so the final result is seen some time after the surgery.
Male-breast reduction
US$2350 ~ US$2350
Show Details
Gynaecomastia treatment. This condition affects men and consists of an excessive growth (hypertrophy) of the mammary gland and breast subcutaneous tissue. This excess may be removed through the incisions along the areolar line; in particular cases extended incisions may be required. Depending on the amount of excess tissue, local or general anaesthesia should be applied. Pressure dressings and an elastic corset should be applied after the surgery.
Nose shaping (rhinoplasty)
US$2350 ~ US$2350
Show Details
You may be not satisfied with the size or shape of your nose. It may be too long, too wide, may have a dorsal hump or the tip may be too large. There may be also post-traumatic deformities.Such deformities, either congenital or post-traumatic, may be corrected surgically. By removing and repositioning of the underlying bones and cartilages, the nose can be shortened, narrowed, the hump may be removed and the tip narrowed. This is done under general anaesthesia. A splint should be placed on the nose for few days after surgery. Some occasional bruising and swelling may be present for some time. The incisions are done inside the nostrils, so the scars are invisible.
Nose shaping (rhinoplasty) - Rhinoplasty
Typically US$1546
Tummy tuck (full)
US$3559 ~ US$3559
Show Details
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). An excess of flaccid abdominal skin and fat may take a form of an overhanging fold, often accompanied by slack abdominal muscles and stretch marks. This may develop after a childbirth, after a substantial weight loss or just "with age".This condition may be easily improved by a procedure called tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). The incisions are drawn just above the pubic hair line and along the groin folds, so that the future scars may be hidden under e.g. a bathing suit. All the excess skin and fat are removed, resulting in a flat, smooth belly, with improved appearance of stretch marks. As the remaining skin is sutured under tension, full body straightening should be avoided during the first days after the operation. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. A 1-2 days stay in the Clinic, and wearing a special corset is strongly recommended.
Tummy tuck (full) - Full Abdominoplasty
Typically US$2498
