About Medical Malta
Medical Malta organises packages which include bed & breakfast accommodation at two of Malta’s leading hotels and surgery, whether cosmetic, dentistry, orthopaedic or heart. A representative of Medical Malta is your contact and correspondent in Malta. From time of enquiry until time of your departure from Malta, the representative may be contacted for information and enquiries. Package Prices When patient is provided with a package price it is very important for the patient to understand what is included in the price, and what is not. These must be clarified PRIOR to travel with Medical Malta. As a guideline Package Prices do not typically include flights, phone calls, extra food or drinks ordered out of menu and schedule, excursions, extra travel, extra garments, crutches, drinks in hotel, and other additional amenities. Face to face consultation takes place in Malta in one of the private operated hospitals or clinics. The patient and surgeon together decide on the final decision of the procedure and Medical Malta is informed after the consultation. 24 hour help line Upon arrival at the hospital, each patient is provided with a mobile phone containing 10 EUR credit (Automatically topped up). This mobile phone is the patient’s 24 hour link with all service providers within the country. This mobile is locked for overseas phone calls and cannot be used for such communication. The mobile phone is to be returned to the Medical Malta representative before departure. The Hospitals and Clinics The Hospitals and Clinics within Medical Malta are various and may differ from one patient to another. The patient might also require selected services from a variety of these facilities. Physiotherapy is offered at the Fortina’s holistic Physiotherapy Department run by Mr Alan Zammit. Physiotherapy is not included in the rates quoted for the orthopaedic operations. Hospital Room Facilities The Hospital room is a private bedroom with en suite bathroom facilities. The room provides for one patient bed which can also provide for the lodging of a companion. The companion is provided with a folding bed and necessary linen. The room is equipped with a television with free local stations, and the opportunity to extend the list of channels at a minimal fee. All rooms have a private and direct line which can be used for incoming and outgoing phone calls which are then paid on discharge. Food is served daily, and can be ordered from a menu which is provided to the patient on arrival. Internet is available on TV screen in the room at a charge. Companions will also be provided with food on Full Board when accompanying the patient in hospital. Hospital Stay During the hospital stay the patient must always ask for the nurse in charge and communicate any request, discomfort, pain, or complaint immediately. This is imperative for effective follow up. The nurse in charge is always briefed and completely informed on patient’s necessities (when Medical Malta is informed) and thus the nurse in charge can ensure that the patient receives the care requested. The Hotels The Hotel Fortina is a 4* hotel offering private facilities, TV, safe, tea and coffee facilities, iron and iron board in the room. Reception is available 24 hours. Bed & Breakfast in the 4* hotel includes breakfast in La Vallette. Other options for half board, full board or all inclusive are available at a supplement. The Fortina Spa Resort 5* tower rooms are of a higher standard and offer private facilities, TV, safe, iron and iron board, gowns, slippers and tea and coffee facilities in the room. Bed & Breakfast in the 5* includes breakfast in Taste Restaurant. The hotel offers other options for half board, full board or all inclusive and these are available at a supplement. Check out from Hotel and admission into Hospital Patients travelling need to check out from hotel on their respective day of admission into hospital, and check in again once they are discharged from hospital. When possible we try to avoid this with Medical Malta guests, however one must understand that if the hotel is full we cannot guarantee this. This is not necessary in the exception of companions who book the hotel for their complete stay and thus will still be using the room. In order to avoid additional fees the patient is still required to checkout and check in accordingly. Luggage should be locked in the hotel luggage room, since hospital rooms may be clustered and have limited space for luggage. Only a few necessary items should be taken into hospital, in a small bag/case. Check Out at Hotel (When departing) Checking out of the hotel room is at noon. If the guest requires keeping the room after check out time, an additional fee is requested. This is also subject to availability. Please confirm and book this service on the day of departure at 08.30. Alone in a Foreign Country Patients are advised to travel with a companion since experience shows us that the companion offers constant support, attention and company to the patient. Every patient travelling for surgery must be aware of all implications of such a decision. We are more than willing to accept patients who are willing to travel alone but patient will understand that Medical Malta and the hospital will offer 24 hour support yet cannot be physically present all the time with the patient during the patient’s stay in Malta. Wheelchairs Patients requiring wheelchairs and any assistance for mobilisation whilst in Malta, should inform Medical Malta. Wheelchair assistance may be provided during flights and wheelchairs may be hired during their stay in Malta. This is subject to a charge. Flights If required, our patients and companions can ask Medical Malta Representative to assist them with flights from most UK airports. Usually these are available from major airports and flights are at an extra cost to the medical package required.
