Female Dental Tourists Seek The Perfect Smile; Men, It Seems, Just Happy To Keep Their Teeth

When it comes to foreign dental treatment, says RevaHealth.com, the world’s leading medical and dental tourism search engine, British women are far more likely to be travelling for cosmetic treatments, such as veneers, teeth whitening and crowns, while men prefer to head abroad for functional treatments, such as dentures and root canals. Whereas women are keen to return home with great-looking teeth, men, it seems, are just happy to keep theirs in basic working order — or keep them at all.

On RevaHealth.com in September, women were accountable for 64% of all UK-based searches for veneers, 65% of the searches for teeth whitening and a significant 73% of the searches for crowns. And while the number of UK-based searches for braces was split down the middle in September, historically women have accounted for 61% of orthodontic searches, too.

British males, on the other hand, were far more interested in implants, dentures and root canals. In fact, a massive 75% of searches out of the UK for root canals during September were carried out by men. Men also accounted for 58% of denture searches and 53% of searches for implants. Historically, they’ve been responsible for 57% of fillings, too. A case of too many Wham bars at school, maybe?

As to where men and women prefer to be treated, of all UK-based enquiries during September regarding treatment in Turkey, just under 80% were made by women. Women also accounted for 69% of all searches involving treatment in Spain and 64% of enquiries relating to India. Men, meanwhile, were more interested than women in travelling to Bulgaria and Costa Rica.

While the types of treatment and locations they lean towards are different, what male and female dental tourists do have in common is the desire to make massive savings on the cost of being treated at home. Currently, the average value of the overseas treatments enquired about through RevaHealth.com (before travel costs) is £2,200, which compares to an average of £5,945 for the equivalent dental treatment in the UK. This represents an average saving of £3,745, or 63%.
