With Winter On The Horizon, Brits Considering Dental Treatment Abroad Turn To The Warmth Of Thailand — And Savings Of Up To 70%

The number of UK citizens considering dental treatment in Thailand rose by 50% in August, according to RevaHealth.com, the world’s leading medical and dental tourism search engine. In total, a significant 10% of Brits searching the internet for dental treatment abroad last month were planning to travel to the ‘Land of Smiles’.

Given that most dental tourists, according to RevaHealth.com, search for clinics 10–12 weeks before they intend to travel, many Brits are clearly considering dental treatment whilst on prearranged holidays during the Thai holiday season, which starts in November.

And why not? The savings that can be made by being treated in Thailand rather than the UK are considerable. A veneer in the UK costs, on average, £500, whereas in Thailand it’s a mere £150, a saving of 70%. Similarly, a dental implant in the UK will set you back £2,000 on average, whereas the same treatment in Thailand costs around £900, a saving of 55%.

Thailand also has one of the most respected dental systems in the world, with a strong program of accreditations and international certifications. And because many Thai dentists and staff train in America, they are able to offer a bilingual service, too. In August as a whole, 42,148 UK citizens searched the internet for dental treatment abroad, a fall of 28% on July. However, the anticipated quiet period during the holiday month of August was still busier than June, when 38,425 Brits searched online for foreign dental treatment.

The average age of UK-based dental tourists searching on RevaHealth.com in August was 43, with the female to male split being 56% to 44%. The specific treatments they were looking for and their intended destinations were:

  • 37% for dental implants
  • 14% for veneers
  • 13% for bridges
  • 13% for crowns
  • 10% for teeth whitening
  • 5% for braces
  • 2% for fillings
  • 32% wanted treatment in Hungary
  • 30% wanted treatment in Poland
  • 10% wanted treatment in Thailand
  • 6% wanted treatment in Bulgaria
  • 5% wanted treatment in Turkey
  • 5% wanted treatment in India
  • 7% wanted treatment in other countries

Caelen King, CEO, RevaHealth.com, commented:

“What caught the eye about August was the sharp spike in the number of Brits considering dental treatment in Thailand. People tend to contact clinics around three months before they travel, which in this case will be November and the start of the holiday season. We know that a good number of these people will be considering treatment on the back of prearranged holidays, which makes sense given the quality of the Thai dental system and the money that can be saved. However, others will be looking to travel to Thailand specifically for treatment, but will enjoy a holiday while they’re out there and still return better off than if they had been treated in the UK.”
