Lumineers are an alternative to standard veneers. They can hide discolouration of teeth and also disguise gaps between teeth or irregular/chipped teeth. They are thin and strong and can be fitted with less preparation than other veneer types. They can end up being cheaper than veneers too as they require less work on the part of the dentist.
How does it work?
Lumineers are a thin porcelain veneers that covers and protects teeth that have become stained or chipped, returning the appearance of a healthy white smile. Though they do not require the preparation and grinding of the teeth that typical veneers do, there are some drawbacks so be sure and consult your dentist for which option is best for you.
What is the procedure like?
The procedure is quite straight forward with the dentist taking a measurement of the size and shape of lumineer required. A custom lumineer is then afixed to the teeth at a subsequent visit.
What different types exist?
Lumineers are made by the Den-Mat Corporation. They are a single brand - see Dental Veneers for other similar options.
